SPRECKELS ELEMENTARY

Bringing the classroom from inside to out, the Spreckels Elementary whole site modernization project is an upcoming complete renovation of a 1960s built campus. Located in University City, a suburb of San Diego, the K-5 school is situated on an 8-acre parcel with newly renovated energy efficient buildings and a new two-story classroom building.

The existing classroom buildings are to be fully transformed from their concrete walled enclosed classrooms to more open, naturally ventilated rooms, featuring views to the outdoors, all new modern finishes, added insulation for improved thermal performance and energy efficient lighting. The administration building will feature new office space and entry and at the multi-purpose building, a new stage for school performances, learning commons, and cafeteria. The new building will consist of eight additional classrooms for the campus along with a shaded outdoor amphitheater for kids to gather next to the learning garden.

Additional site improvements incorporate an expanded parking lot with drop-off/pick-up lanes, drought-tolerant landscape, shaded outdoor learning spaces throughout the campus, and a joint-use field with playground for community use.
